Birthday presents

Hi, within this blog we hope to outline some of the really cool birthday presents that are available on the net to buy. Not just the standard stuff, but some really cool experiences that will earn those browne points.

Feel free to let me know what you think and of any cool ideas that you might have.

In this first edition, we'll talk about experience days as presents. An experience day is a gift that you can give, usually in the form of a voucher to another person. These experience days range from driving experiences such as ferrari driving, on flying experiences such as an 30 minute aeroplane lesson. There are even such weird ones as cooking lessions, bird of pray handling and many more.

What are the pit falls? Well, be careful who you buy from. The trouble with most experience days providers is that they give you a 10 month voucher in return for you money. no problem right? Wrong, what if that experience company goes out of business within the 10 months, or before you book. In most case you'll lose your money and have no experience. Worse, it won't be you who finds out. it'll be the person you gave the voucher to as a birthday present. Ouch. And they may not even tell you as they may be to embrasses or want to save your embrassement.

Also, it's not always the biggest who are save. Any one who knows 'Red letter days' will know what happened to them. They were the biggest experience day provider in the UK and bang, they went bust, and people lost money.

So how do you counter this? Well, make sure you use a credit card. This way if the company does go bust you are protected and will get your money back from the bank. Also, choose a company which has good feedback from clients. Don't look on their site, look around the internet.

Also, be careful with what experience days you purchase. There's absolutely no doubt that a good experience day can be a fabulous present. Giving someone a Ferrari 430 to blast round a track is hardly going to be a chore! However, some of these days are nothing less than a cattle market. They oversell the day so much that you are hoarded round like sheep and get just a fleeting moment in the car. So for a good birthday present, make sure that you pay a decent amount of money. If the experience is cheap, then that's what you'll get.

Please let me know your experiences with these types of birthday presents!
